Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan, Asia Cup 2022 Highlights: Afghanistan hammered Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the opener match of the Asia Cup 2022 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.
Match Summary:
Sri Lanka 105 (19.4) Afghanistan 106/2 (10.1)
Afghanistan won by 8 wickets
Player of the Match: Fazalhaq Farooqi 3.4-1-11-3
Afghanistan’s speedster Fazalhaq Farooqi hit the bull’s-eye in the first over of the match, sending Sri Lankan two top-order batters, Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka on the last two deliveries.
Sri Lanka kept on losing wickets one after another except for the last wicket partnership of 30 runs between Chamika Karunaratne (31 off 28 balls) and Dilshan Madushanka (1 off 2 balls).
Thanks to the last-wicket partnership, otherwise, Afghanistan could’ve ended the match within the powerplay as they were 83-0 in 6 overs.
One of the best current wrist spinners in the world, Rashid Khan (4-0-12-0), did not get even a single wicket but bowled magnificently without giving too many runs in his spell.
Off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman (4-0-24-2) and captain Mohammad Nabi (4-0-14-2) managed to take two wickets each.
Afghan openers, Hazratullah Zazai (37 off 28 balls) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (40 off 18 balls), off to a blistering start and powered their team to 83-0 in just six overs which helped their team to finish the match in 10.1 overs.
The Sri Lankan team needs to do their homework before the next face-off against Bangladesh on September 01, 2022.
On the other hand, Afghanistan would be confident enough to beat Bangladesh on August 30, 2022, and jump into the Super Four Stage.
