The Mumbai Indians Women and the UP Warriorz faced off in an exciting Eliminator match, with both teams fighting to play the Final in the Women’s Premier League 2023 T20 Challenge.
The UP Warriorz won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mumbai Indians accepted the challenge, putting up a respectable total of 182 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Opener Hayley Matthews led the charge with 26 off 26 deliveries, while Nat Sciver-Brunt played a knock to remember for a long long time, scoring quickfire 72* runs off just 32 deliveries towards the end of the innings.
In response, the UP Warriorz struggled to get going, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to form any significant partnerships.
Issy Wong disrupted UP Warriorz’s batting line-up by dismissing the formidable Alyssa Healy (11) early on and eliminating an in-form Kiran Navgire (43). She then proceeded to take a wicket each on the second, third, and fourth deliveries of her third over, cleaning up Simran Sheikh (0) and Sophie Ecclestone (0). This exceptional performance by Wong proved to be the key factor in securing the victory for her team.
Kiran Navgire top-scored for the Warriorz with 43 runs, but it wasn’t enough as they fell short of the target, finishing on 110 runs for the loss of 10 wickets.
