In a nail-biting encounter between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, RR emerged victorious by three wickets. The 23rd match of the IPL 2023 saw some great performances by both teams, with the RR’s Shimron Hetmyer being declared the Player of the Match.
After winning the toss, RR captain Sanju Samson chose to bowl first and asked GT to bat. GT started on a good note with opener Shubman Gill smashing 45 off 34 deliveries, including four boundaries and one six. David Miller’s 46 off 30 and Abhinav Manohar’s 27 off 13 also contributed significantly to GT’s final score of 177/7 in 20 overs.
RR’s Sandeep Sharma bowled an impressive spell, giving away only 25 runs and taking two key wickets of GT batters Gill and Miller.
In response, RR got off to a poor start, losing both openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal in just three overs and scoring just four runs.
However, RR captain Sanju Samson played crucial quick-fire innings of 60 off 32 deliveries in the middle overs, assisted by three boundaries and six huge sixes.
Even after losing wickets at the other end, West Indian left-handed pinch hitter Shimron Hetmyer kept his cool till the end of the innings, smashing 56 off just 26 balls and winning the game for RR.
With this impressive victory, RR moved to the top of the IPL 2023 points table with 8 points. Hetmyer’s outstanding performance with the bat and his ability to stay calm under pressure earned him the Player of the Match award.
